This is indeed interesting. And apparently quite legal, so far anyway, even given the freedoms that a religious group would have. Feds have been investigating for a long time and found enough problems with it to seize property. Remains to be seen how it fares as it goes through the courts.

The "sanctuary" doctrine has been gone for a long, long time.  A local example of (at least the threat of) a church seizure was that in another town over from here, there was a pretty big church building that never seemed to have any people there for services.  It turned out that the "preacher" was living in the church itself and using it primarily as a home; when they threatened to remove its tax-exempt status as a church, it was amazing how many people suddenly started showing up for services all of a sudden.

The USS Navy paid a lot for those destroyers.  Iran had made very few payments, and canceled the sale.  It was not a seizure at all.
