however, given the 300% increase in player salaries (and natch, the 300% (?) rise in ticket prices), I think it's something of a poison pill.

Setting aside those regional licensing issues for a moment... here is a hypothetical question for you:  If you were a businessman thinking of purchasing and moving an NHL team from somewhere in the US would you move said team to Southern Ontario or Winnipeg?  Don't forget you're a businessman and although you may be a fan, you have to think of the bottomline and financial feasibility of the team first.  Where do you move the team?

I wouldn't move it to a town in the US.

The US has tons of sports teams battling for tickets and media coverage.  In Canada hockey is king.

It is a no-brainer.  In Canada Hockey sells itself.

Winnipeg should be top priority. (Go Jets Go) then Hamilton or somewhere similar. No more sun-belt hockey teams please. It makes Baby Eddie Shore (Canuck version of Jesus) cry.

His record at Ottawa was truly incredible.  The Habs may not win a cup but man will they dominate the regular season.

3) decent track record developing Ottawa's youth in the 90's
4) Gainey figures he can work with him.
