Mostly Table Top RPGs these days. I have a Regular Mutants & masterminds game and a semi regular D&D game (3.5) (just getting started on a new campaign in that one... it may peter out like previous ones.

I sometimes play ps2 games. Am sorely tempted to buy Civ IV for mac, but then when will I do anything but play Civ IV, that shit is like crack for me.
:p

Mostly PC, bits of console. These days I try to limit by games budget and most of the time I buy games that are available online from independent publishers/devs. The occasional "big name" is in between (Total War, Bioware, etc.).
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

If you haven't tried it, you cannot possibly make a credible statement that there is no console game with depth.

There are plenty of console titles with a depth comparable to similar PC titles. The fact that the platform doesn't lend itself to wargames doesn't change that.

That you don't like consoles is fine, but making claims as to the content of console games when you haven't tried them is ludicrous.
I guess you must buy every game that comes out then. How could you possibly decide whether you like it or not until you've tried it.

"Yes, primarily console games."

I no longer play PC games, the mouse killed my hands. I shoot teenage scum on the PS3 (COD4/5 and upcoming MW2) or the simpler (no excesive micromanaging) CivRev. Little Big Planet can also be fun. I do miss modding games though.

Of course not. I can make a judgement call as to whether I believe I will derive enjoyment out of a title.

What I cannot do, however, is declare that all console titles lack depth since then I WOULD have to try them all or at least enough to find one with "depth".

Hell, I can't even claim that all arabs are horrible people since A) I haven't met all of them B) I've probably met one or two I wouldn't want to stick in a meatgrinder. And I decidedly loathe arabs.

Maximus

Ah, so I can decide, without playing, whether or not a game will be enjoyable, but not whether it has depth. Any other special rules I need to know about?

Now you're just being obtuse.

How can you possibly know the depth or lack thereof in ALL console titles without trying them out?

Maximus

I don't know. That would be an interesting question, assuming you could find someone who claimed they knew such a thing.

PC only.  I find console games to be lacking in depth, although I've never tried them.

And since you ran to the defense of Guller in my critique of his position, you by fiat assume his position.

Check. Mate. Stop being a dick.

"I find X to be Y" does not mean "all X are absolutely Y". It is conditional upon one's observations and experiences.

Since he's already quantified his experience with console games as effectively zero, how is it possible to make that judgement other than by hearsay and prejudice?

Maximus

Why does it matter? His claim only applies as far as he has experiences and observations.

For myself, reading about and watching others play them was enough.

It's your loss.

Disqualifying console titles because "they lack depth" when it is clear that it is not the case for all of them is nonsensical.

I download demos on the PSN all the time before I decide if I spend my money.
