I'm amazed that you would single Neil out for a comparison here.

Yeah, Jaron has more chance to go onto a killing spree than Neil.  :P

My point is that I am fairly certain that Neil is a sane guy acting crazy on the internet, but if he ever did do something stupid, we would all look bad for not doing anything because of his posts and there isn't a defense we could make.

I'm not trying to single Neil out--I think that all of our unusual posters are acting to some extent, even lettow.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

There's a fine line between salvation and drinking poison in the jungle.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)

Yep. Because, you know, straight guys need all the help in the world to get laid.

I'm just really disturbed that such a community exists. Perhaps if they spent less time chatting with other males...

I am not disturbed. In fact, I am glad we have these resources. Don't gay men have similar kinds of community? After all, not all gay men know how to play the cruising game, or so I think, since I am not gay.

Many men really need help to seduce women and approach them. While some of them might indeed be misogynistic pigs, pick-up gurus are there to give cues and correct mistakes men can do in their approach, as nowadays approaching a woman can really be intimidating for someone who feels the pressure to find a mate. But most of the job, in fact, is to focus on becoming assertive and comfortable with oneself.

As Caliga and I can attest, it does work. How people use this knowledge afterwards is up to them.

Ah, ok.  Well, point taken then.

A key difference would be that one is also looking for potential mates within the group.  Not to mention that gay cruising is hardly difficult. Make eye contact with a fella and if he maintains eye contact with you...;)

Anyway "seduction community" is a horrible label.

Haven't we done the "Languishista most likely to make the news in mad rampage" before?  ;)

Also, the fact that this fellow ranted about his inability to get a girl prompting him into a mad rampage isn't really an indication that other girl-less fellows may go the same route. Most likely if the guy was a big hit with the ladies he would have been just as dangerous.

I agree. Most guys in his situation would simply grow jaded and/or become whiny little wusses. Something else has pushed him further, at least a significant personality disorder.

Caliga

I agree.  Earlier I was wondering what would have happened had he gotten married.... would everything be totally cool with the guy, or would he later flip out over something else and go on a rampage, but instead against his family?
