Sad, and angering, to see attacks like this. Good luck to the Spanish in dealing with this group and this kind of thinking. I guess the separatist group has been weakened, with all the pressure and arrests on them over the recent past? Or not, since they can still do this kind of thing?

Quite true. But eventually a movement can lose its impetus, reason for being, for political or other reasons. Any sign of that with the separatists I wonder?

Back when I was a little kid ETA killed over a hundred people a year. So yes, it lost its impetus quite a while ago. It still has around 100k supporters in the Basque Country (from a population of around 2 million) though so it is not going anywhere.
