It's ok, we're all old. Just some are older than others :P Is GF still our youngest regular?
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

My first one is the most famous one (in England)  :bowler:

It was trailed by an article in the Eagle annual; which speculated wheter we would win this time, they thought we had a good chance. I watched some of the final; but we were at my cousins and they had a big Scalextrix track so there was some competition for attention going on. My uncle and father were very over-excited. Later on my Dad managed to get me some of the "England Winners" postage stamps which I greatly prized.

Later that year my school managed to get a film of the World cup, with synopses of the teams and the games played (biassed towards England of course). We watched that instead of working for an entire afternoon

I hope this tale has made you feel slightly less ancient Josephus  ;)

Quote from: Gups on June 10, 2026, 04:55:14 AMI was at the San Siro for the 9 man Cameroon win against Argentina. Absolutely mad game.

The first game I attended at a World Cup had to wait 2006, in Germany, if that's of any consolation to you Josephus.
Before smart phones (not cell phones) so fans talked a lot more on the trains linking the cities hosting the games. Plus Deutsche Bahn seemed to work better in 2006 than in 2024 or 2025.  :P
I had been to Euros before.

I participated in some quiz about football earlier this week. There were 16 teams of six people, and pretty serious. I realised about half way that I only remember football facts from last year and the period from around 1970 to 2000. That is either the drinking or age (or lack of interest) kicking in.

It's just that they are all too young to know any better. If you have that perspective, it helps you a lot.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.
