Dev diary for Republics: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/developer-diary/silk-silver-dev-diary-4-republics-vision.1927392/

I was randomly starting a quick game last weekend (currently bouncing between games a lot), as the ruler of Nih in Persia in 869 (admittedly, I clicked random ruler till I landed on him and thought Knights of Nih was funny -_- ). My half-brother is my liege and we like each other. However, we're on different sides of the Iranian mini-struggle. He's anti-Caliphate, I'm pro. So he denounces my sons all the effing time. Even the one I sent to be educated by him.

I do support him in his wars to curry favor and eventually marry my 280 soldiers (100 MAA, 180 levies) into an alliance with larger local rulers.

I excitedly go to war with a neigbor, want to call my allies ... yeah, they won't join. (I have More Interactive Vassals installed which gives more modifers to whether allies/vassals will join your war, switch sides, or get fatigued from getting called into your wars, which might be part of it, but I overlooked that my allies are also on the other side of the struggle. Also, my brother/liege refuses to ally me because I'm so much weaker than him)

So I get stomped, go into debt, am briefly imprisoned by my brother and finally realize the error of my ways (i.e. I saved 600 piety) to switch sides. I could go to war now, but I'm in debt and my targets have better alliances now. I plod along a bit more while getting called into losing wars by my other family members but decide to call it quits there.

Also, loved this dev response about:

QuoteI'm getting conclave vibes from some of the republic mechanics, and I mean that in the best way possible. Might some of the new laws and senate mechanics be added to other government types? Or, failing that, how moddable is this system? Is it just a flag like some other mechanics?
Incredibly moddable. It is not a focus for us to add things to those other government forms right now, but we are aiming to ensure that this makes that as easy as possible for when we want to do those things down the line, if we ever want to do so.

Being able to add noble assemblies or early parliaments to some countries would be quite neat.
