Oh you clearly have never driven through rural areas in the US. It can be very bleak.

Despite the weird claim that only the cities have problems. Everywhere has problems, because our system is failing.

Quote from: Razgovory on September 20, 2025, 10:49:46 PMOne of the odd things about politics is that places that are the most left-wing also have the greatest levels of inequality.

It is not odd at all. The super wealthy go to the cities and it is this inequality that ends up turning most of the population left wing. If things were equal, then why would they vote left wing?

I think that hypothesis is more than a bit speculative.  Inequality is the big thing people are talking about now, but cities were left wing for far longer.  I think a more plausible hypothesis is that city living but its nature requires a lot more active governance, which is naturally the left wing territory.

I was thinking rural farmland  but point taken, rural towns are probably shitty too.

As for whether I've been, I did a feild trip to Kentucky 25 odd years ago. That's where I learned the Foxworthy wasn't kidding about gun racks on trucks :D . Also so many churches. Travel down the road and youd see all the different denomination.  Double the amount "needed" because of segregation. You'd see the white baptist church and right across the street would be the black one
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

If the populations of these places are electing people who want to reduce inequality why is inequality worse in those places than places where  the population is not as interested in reducing inequality?
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

You guys haven't raised the minimum wage in like 40 years and you wonder why petty crime is rampant

Any suggestion americas issues are due to the rule of the "radical left" is just nuts.
Indeed it loops back to the start of the thread.
The reason the Democrats fail is they keep playing it safe and offering nothing.
If they actually did embrace genuine left wing policy and offer change they would do much better.

Looks like many Republican states don't bother.

IIRC for the minimum wage to have followed productivity, it should be around 25 bucks. But yeah. It's the leftists' fault when people steal shampoo and can't afford their rent or something.

If the fault is not the people governing, then who's fault is it?

The cities of America are governed by leftists? Where? The mayors of these cities can increase minimal wage?

Gimme a break. You don't fix income inequality on a city by city basis.

Democrats govern entire states, why is inequality worse in those states?  Why are we failing?

Something something bootstrap.

I believe America, by and large, sees economic hardship as personal failure (not working hard enough) but also noble, if you manage to overcome it or make the vest of it.
