Poor people aggregate to cities. Always have. Hard to be homeless in rural Nebraska. That's assuming you even survive the first winter.

Oh you clearly have never driven through rural areas in the US. It can be very bleak.

Despite the weird claim that only the cities have problems. Everywhere has problems, because our system is failing.

One of the odd things about politics is that places that are the most left-wing also have the greatest levels of inequality.

It is not odd at all. The super wealthy go to the cities and it is this inequality that ends up turning most of the population left wing. If things were equal, then why would they vote left wing?

I think that hypothesis is more than a bit speculative.  Inequality is the big thing people are talking about now, but cities were left wing for far longer.  I think a more plausible hypothesis is that city living but its nature requires a lot more active governance, which is naturally the left wing territory.

I was thinking rural farmland but point taken, rural towns are probably shitty too.

As for whether I've been, I did a feild trip to Kentucky 25 odd years ago. That's where I learned the Foxworthy wasn't kidding about gun racks on trucks . Also so many churches. Travel down the road and youd see all the different denomination.  Double the amount "needed" because of segregation. You'd see the white baptist church and right across the street would be the black one

If the populations of these places are electing people who want to reduce inequality why is inequality worse in those places than places where  the population is not as interested in reducing inequality?

Indeed it loops back to the start of the thread.
The reason the Democrats fail is they keep playing it safe and offering nothing.
If they actually did embrace genuine left wing policy and offer change they would do much better.

I believe America, by and large, sees economic hardship as personal failure (not working hard enough) but also noble, if you manage to overcome it or make the vest of it.
