When things get bad, people won't turn on Trump. Trump will blame the Dems / transpeople / immigrants, and the country will happily go on a pogrom-spree. No lessons will be learned. The end.

I watched a video of AOC about the current situation.

I still don't like her that much, but I understand why she appeals to many voters.

Basically, outside of the headlines, no one knows what exactly is going on so all they can do is sue to make it stop so they could maybe ask questions.

But Democrats do not control Congress, so it all depends on Republican goodwill.

You have the remember the clear message that was sent: Democrats are just as bad and rotten as Republicans.  This is what was sent as a message.  The far left, many black communities, the Latinos, the Muslims, the richer suburban Democrats, they all voted for this.   The irony is the people protesting now are probably those who did not vote for the Democrats in this election or the 2016 one.

People seemed pretty ready to move on from Trump in 2020.  It's not like Biden was that inspiring a campaigner.  Heck, given that it was during Covid Biden barely campaigned at all.

Well the ethnic cleansing of Germans is now generally seen as a crime. So, you know, not a great precedent.
Seen by who?  It was unequivocally a good thing.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

I thought it was more seen as being really unfortunate, but probably necessary (with a side of collective punishment on ethnic Germans).

The Minsky Moment

I don't think one effectively responds to the criticism of proposing fascistic atrocities by appealing to Stalin's crimes as a supporting precendent.

QuoteDonald Trump has once again said that "everybody loves" his proposal for the US to take over the Gaza Strip, despite his shock announcement facing global condemnation.

"Everybody loves it," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Wednesday.

He refused to take further questions as he was overseeing the swearing in of the new US attorney general, Pam Bondi.

In a joint press conference with Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, Trump claimed "everybody I've spoken to loves the idea of the United States owning that piece of land," referring to the Gaza Strip.

It was definitely an atrocity and crime against humanity. Just, you know, like most of the horrible things that happened to the Germans and Japanese seen as understandable in a Fuck Around and Find Out kind of way. But not good. I don't think anybody cheers on the atrocities of the Red Army, at most you are like "well ok...I get it on some level."

But last I checked no Palestinians murdered millions of Americans in a war of annihilation.

At risk of crossing threads, this is a good example of the madness.  "Everyone" does not love it, even if the definition of humanity is radically condensed to include only Trump's intimates, flunky and heavily censored news feeds.  No amount of repetition will make this true.  No amount of repetition will raise the number of Americans who "love it" much above the number that could fit in a 1980s phone booth.

For some reason people are willing to accept this behavior in a man in an expensive but poorly tailored suit and with a very impressive job title.

But put someone in shabby clothes in the middle of Times Square, and have him deliver much the same patter as Trump (sharks, Lecter, etc.) and within a manner of hours it would mean detention in a city jail and an order of involuntary commitment to a mental institution.

The whole Gaza 'deal' could be more smoke & mirrors to disguise Trump's true intentions. The BBC are reporting that he has posted on Truth Social that he wants a "verified nuclear peace agreement" with Iran. So this could just be a bone to placate the hardliners while he goes for the real deal. Of course that could be anything at this point.

I mean we had one of those. He cancelled it for no reason.

But hey hopefully he is out there playing 4D chess. But my decades of experience with this dude has me...skeptical.

However, just saying something like this does damage to the United States even if it is just some kind of trick to keep Israel distracted while we sell them out behind the scenes.
