I signed up to play Twilight Imperium at a game con in a few weeks.  I have played it 2x the last of which was years ago.  I liked it but am a bit nervous since I don't want to drag the game down with my incompetence.

If you have a few weeks, you have time to prepare for it if you're worried about that. There are some good strategy articles out there and plenty of gameplay vids. I'd recommend watching one on YouTube for a complete cycle of a couple of turns to regain the flow.

Rest assured, though, if you're a new player at a table of TI4 veterans, they'll let you know what to do and what you're doing wrong (for them).  :P
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Trench Crusade has dropped on Kickstarter. It looks a lot like Warhammer made up of a medieval crusader, World War I, Diablo, and Warhammer stew. I'm intrigued by the lore and art far more than the game, personally, but I've never been a tabletop gamer.

I bought the Final Girl Ultimate Box, Series 1 after a long time of researching/consideration. Should be a great game to play with the spouse.

Of course, per my typical luck, I open the box up and discover that everything is in English...except my core box, which is Italian.  At first, I assumed it was a joke, but then discovered that, no, something just got fucked up at the factory. I have zero doubts that the company will send a replacement.

Anyone want an Italian-edition core box of Final Girl?  :P

And to buoy my wargamer credentials, I also grabbed this last week:

Vassal module game coming soon. I love bluffing mechanics in games and this is a campaign that doesn't get covered nearly enough (Waterloo  :glare: ).

Isn't this game solo? The theme always drew me, but I'm not much for solitaires.

And no, I can't use your Italian version :p

Habbaku

It is, yes, but as with every solo game worth a damn, you can effectively make it a small-team game by just walking through the decisions.

I did the same thing with Sleeping Gods which is a "1-4" game, but is really meant for 1-2.

I may have gone a bit overboard by buying the 2nd Ultimate Box as well.

I'm going to try and get Burning Banners on the table in December.
"there's a long tradition of insulting people we disagree with here, and I'll be damned if I listen to your entreaties otherwise."-OVB

"Obviously not a Berkut-commanded armored column.  They're not all brewing."- CdM

"We've reached one of our phase lines after the firefight and it smells bad—meaning it's a little bit suspicious... Could be an amb—".

CountDeMoney

Burning Banners is a great production.  I didn't think it was my thing, but too many people I know had been raving about it.

Agreed, just a beautiful production.

I look forward to the (3!?) expansions.

That game was created by a friend of mine. I used to beta test Dark Moon with him when I was stationed in Virginia Beach prior to my retirement. I've kickstarted his new game The Dark Quarter.https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/354768/the-dark-quarter

You made me check it out, and I've instantly fallen in love with it. Pity my playing group has become rather wargame-adverse over the years.
