Didn't find a thread for this game. I've been expecting it dearly. It's still in Alpha and doesn't even have the campaign mode in yet, but I've been watching a few videos.

It's a Naval Simulator set in the 1890-1940 era. The "Rule the Waves with pretty graphics" comparison is very tempting, but we know too little of the campaign as of now (which ultimately will make or break the game, imho). The ship design is indeed quite detailed, and every nation in the game has "building blocks" derived from real ships (so yeah, Japanese have their pagoda citadels, etc...). There's a bunch of let's play videos with people building the silliest ships possible too with the sandbox mode.

The AI seems pretty bad, but there's a decent foundation in there - DDs and CLs make torpedo runs, big ships shell the hell out of you from behind their small ship screens, etc... Since they keep adding stuff each Alpha release it'll get there.

Here a guy making his own fantasy scenario using the ship designer to recreate the Yamato:

And for something more silly, a 125,000 ton BB armed with 192 8-inchers.

Looks like ironclads are in it too.

Some of those numbers for gun performance made me wince.  Yamato's guns can penetrate 34" of deck armor at 22kyd?  Not even close.

In general, there seemed to be far too many hits and they did far to much damage (an 18" shell single-shotted cruisers twice).  This game looks like it is aimed at the World of warships crowd, not serious naval gamers.

I'll stick with RTW if the gameplay with this one is being accurately depicted.

I won't deny it feels a bit arcade-ish at times, but it's an alpha and they keep updating and tuning stuff. The developers claim they want the game to feel realistic. The damage model is something they keep adjusting (for example they reduced horizontal armor penetration in the last patch), will see where the game ends up.

Also, you should restart that RTW aar. It was one of my favorites.
