Well, apparently the WHO announcement that there is not much asymptomatic spread was not quite right.  Just teasing.
I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

I've taken a look at the detailed data just now, and ran a few quick analyses.  Data can be spotty and should be cleansed when you do something like this, but I wanted something quickly.

I think we can now conclude that in some states diagnosed infections are picking up steam.  Florida, South Carolina, Arizona, New Mexico, Oregon, and Washington all seem to be going in the wrong direction.  South Carolina and Oregon in particular are looking rather alarming.  These are diagnosed infections we're talking about, so it could always be a result of more widespread testing that we're seeing rather than actual infection flare-ups, but that's the only credible data I can go on.  If you're waiting for US numbers to turn bad again, don't despair just yet.

Doesn't quite fit the expected (hoped for?) pattern of red state dimbulb hoaxers dying in droves and right thinking blue states happily skating by, does it?

I don't think anyone hopes for anyone else to die. Get sick and hurt for a bit, sure, but not die.
Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish he'd go away...

So Sheilbh, will you be joining someone's bubble?

Traffic is almost back to normal levels as far as I can tell, people are visibly more relaxed about the whole thing, we are letting thousands pile up like sardines in protests, yet they come up with shit like these bubbles. It's becoming pathetic.

This is going to make online dating in time of pandemic very complicated

I heard about bubbles from New Zealand colleagues a while ago and they seem sensible/successful there. Obvs that depends on consistent, clear public messaging etc.....So......

In Spain we reached the "do what ever the fuck you want" stage quite some time ago. So far it seems to be working somehow.

I'm furloughed every Wednesday (is that the correct way of saying it?). So I went out today to sort out some paperwork. I'd say easily 80% of those I saw on the streets were older, most of them with mask on. But I still saw many, many people that weren't wearing their mask properly.

The number of people out should decrease sharply in a few weeks in any case. Nobody enjoys walking around in 40ยบ C temps.

Sheilbh

Weird thing here is scientific advisors in the UK have never changed their view on masks. I think we're told to wear them on public transport but that's it.

So it's mainly been driven by how people feel so a few weeks ago when London was peaking I saw lots of masks. Now, very few.

Yesterday was my first day in Barcelona since early March. The city was still very lethargic. Subways were pretty empty, malls too, it felt a lot like when I was a kid and there were barely any tourists (which I guess it's the reason the city feels so empty).

That's really weird. One of the big differences between the West and the Far East was precisely the use of masks.

There's an interesting study on the CDC page about sailors on USS Roosevelt. The two measures that are more strongly correlated with evading infection are social distancing and masks.

Yes but this is Britain. We do things our way.

Yeah. It's bizarre and I can understand in the early days wanting to ensure supplies for the state first - I think French health authorities basically admitted they knew they helped but didn't want individuals competing with health authorities so advised against masks.

As it is, the UK and a few Northern European countries are the last holdouts for some reason.

As I say even my friends who work for the NHS are very dismissive of masks.

Gotta admit, we kind of did the bubble thing from the start.  Wasn't going to be able to keep my wife away from her inner circle of friends, and we continued to do things with my brother's family for the most part.

I'm very good at social distancing. I have small children that I can't bring anywhere & no friends. So, I just go to the grocery store & home supply store once in a while.

We have our small circle of family that has continued to meet during the Coronavirus but we have isolated outselves from everybody else.
