His (hoodie guy) is the most radical faction among separatists. The kind of radicalism that would make me flee the country if they ever came into power. Fortunately, they usually get only single digits in Catalan elections, but they have had an inordinate influence in Catalan politics given how important their seats are to make a majority.

Now they are trying to replicate the trick in a Spanish election that's projected to run close, and try to block any government from being elected by Parliament. I don't think their seats will matter, but we can end up with a hung parliament nonetheless.

Major Applewhite is indeed a hardcore anti-separatist. His party was founded in Barcelona in the 2000s as a reaction to the local branch of the socialists entering a coalition with left-wing separatists to rule the region.
