Never had the privilege of seeing him play, but I always idolized him.  Actually got to meet him by random chance at a hotel in Bal Harbour, FL when he was managing the Nationals.  He went out of his way to be nice to me, even before I realized who he was.

Hell of a player, and blazed a trail as the first black manager.  RIP Frank
"If you can play a guitar and harmonica at the same time, like Bob Dylan or Neil Young, you're a genius. But make that extra bit of effort and strap some cymbals to your knees, suddenly people want to get the hell away from you."  --Rich Hall

Valmy

I read his autobiography as a kid (though probably ghost written since it was published shortly after is triple crown year in 1967). One of my favorite players even though he retired one year before I was born :P

RIP Frank. Sorry Peter Angelos fired you.
Quote"This is a Russian warship. I propose you lay down arms and surrender to avoid bloodshed & unnecessary victims. Otherwise, you'll be bombed."

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

The Minsky Moment

Frank should get three RIP threads.  One for each piece of his 1966 Triple Crown.
We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.
--Woodrow Wilson
