The problem is that personal firearms cannot maintain personal freedoms.  They are exclusively used by citizens to terrorize and murder each other.  In order to maintain order in society, it falls to the state to maintain an absolute monopoly on the legitimate use of deadly force.  That way, all citizens can share in the bounty of prosperity.

An excellent point.  Dorsey's experience has shown him that it's better to cooperate, as it costs you less.  Of course, the criminal has no fear in the US, as there is no chance of him ever having to pay for his crime.
