I think that's way too pessimistic.  Even Stalin's USSR had elections.

Yeah, gotta have pretend elections so you can point at them and say how democratic you are and rightfully elected, executing the will of the people.

I honestly think his base would be fine eliminating them if not actively celebrating it.
"Everything that brought you here -- all the things that made you a prisoner of past sins -- they are gone. Forever and for good. So let the past go... and live."

"Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did."

There is certainly a subset of people in this country whose will is to execute certain other people, so makes sense.

Trump says he's considering pulling out of NATO, calls it a 'paper tiger'

Quote"Oh yes, I would say [it's] beyond reconsideration. I was never swayed by NATO. I always knew they were a paper tiger, and Putin knows that too, by the way," Trump said in the interview.
Just in case there was in any doubt about his handler.

We're a paper tiger. And we sure as fuck are going to be to an even larger extent once this insane jackass finishes diplomatically isolating us. We are in for a century of humiliation.

The Minsky Moment

Got to hand it to Trump, the man can move the markets.
We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.

Trump fired Bondi. Gabbard supposedly next.

Professional military is being replaced by MAGA praetorians

This will end well

Replacing experienced military leaders with political lackeys during a war always goes well, right?

Indications are he is being succeeded by a Trump sycophant.

QuoteGreen had been the Army's chief of chaplains. Hegseth announced two major reforms to the military's chaplain corps a little over a week ago.

In a video message last week, Hegseth said he wanted chaplains to focus more on God and less on therapeutic "self-help and self-care." In recent years, the military has become increasingly dependent on chaplains to help address the growing numbers of troops in mental health distress. Hegseth also said chaplains would no longer wear their rank on their uniform but instead would be identified by religious insignia.
