Quote from: Richard Hakluyt on January 17, 2026, 02:28:14 AMThe Begum case makes no sense at all to me. We have, rightly imo, said that the grooming and trafficking of minors is one of the worst crimes. This happened to her. Now she was a foolish girl, but foolish teens are ten a penny which is why we try to protect them.

I also hate the idea of stripping people of their citizenship. In the UK at least it seems to be that some people, brown people, have an inferior class of citizenship which is revocable. It is citizenship though, not a golf club membership. If a citizen performs dreadful acts against their country then they should be tried for treason.

We all lose out by treating citizenship as a trivial and contingent thing.

Yeah, I never understood why we didn't try her and then imprison her if she was found guilty. Government simply wanted to make sure there was no chance of her being out and about in Britain?

I am nearing the stage where I start hoping for a civil war or similar debilitating domestic crisis in the US. The rate at which Trump is creating international tention makes it very unlikely, I think, to end his term without a major war erupting and once one gets started it will be difficult to avoid it escalating into a nuclear one, especially with him in charge.

At the very least we'll soon know the answer to the question 'why didn't the Germans stop hitler?'.

And it's the fucking Department of Labor. Not even the DHS or the "Department of War"... Not that such imagery would be excusable for them either, but Jesus Christ.

That means that they are not only posing nazi-esque slogans, but also the wrong ones.
They should be posting along the lines of 'labor leads to liberty'.

DoL social media feed has been regularly pumping out this Nazified neo-Vichy shit for a while now.  Place must be overrun by crypto-fascists.  It's the same gang that rolled out the Big Brother-style giant Trump banners.

I mean, that is likely exactly the case.

Crypto as in they are really into crypto-currency?  Cause they certainly aren't "crypto" as in hidden.  I thought I understood politics, I really did.  This is all twilight zone shit.  Like Hitler's ghost is advising people.  I don't understand any of it.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Will we every know what is going on in the White House in terms of the influences and restraints on the trump, that's assuming 'we' survive the next three years?

What proportion of his staff/advisors fall into the egging him on, just doing his bidding and those trying to restrain him to tradition US FP goals?

And who are the 'leading lights' that people can put a name to?

I think Vance is playing the longer game, backing him on any insanity that comes to the 'mind', so that he can be the undisputed successor come 2028*

* again a load of assumption here.

They are "hidden" behind the vast arrays of gaslights deployed by the admin press flunkies.
But they probably are into crypto currency too because grifters always respect a grift.

I remember thinking the depictions of USA-turned-fascist, like the Earth government in Babylon 5, in the 90s always felt hokey. Sometimes you'd even have them blatantly throwing sieg heils or directly aping the Nazis. It always felt so hamfisted and cliched. And yet now it's all there on full display.

Don't worry, it'll all magically resolve at the ballot box in November, which will be a totally fair and balanced election. All the nazis will take off their uniform and burn them.
