What does a TRUMP presidency look like?

Quote from: Norgy on September 04, 2025, 03:37:31 PMThis love of tariffs baffles even a left-winger like me.

It makes perfect sense. Trump, and his supporters, are extremely xenophobic and think all foreigners are inferior and suspect...and probably dangerous criminals or conspiring to screw the United States.

So Trump wants to build a giant wall to insulate us form foreigners.

American Conservatives seem to hate and fear the entire world outside of the 1-2% that are them.

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

The Minsky Moment

Quote from: The Minsky Moment on September 03, 2025, 03:11:42 PMI mean it COULD be the boat was filled with Tren de Aragua drug smugglers, but it just as well could be anything else.

From NYT
QuoteBut some officials at the Defense Department privately expressed concern on Wednesday about the administration's shifting narratives, including where the vessel was headed. Mr. Rubio had said on Tuesday that it was going to Trinidad, while Mr. Trump said the United States. On Wednesday, Mr. Rubio changed his version, saying the drug-laden boat was bound for the United States.

The secretary said in Mexico City that drug cartels and traffickers, including those on the boat, "pose an immediate threat to the United States, period."

Pentagon officials were still working Wednesday on what legal authority they would tell the public was used to back up the extraordinary strike in international waters.

We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.
--Woodrow Wilson

The Minsky Moment

In Trumpland, pronouncing the word "period" to designate the end of a sentence is a tell that the speaker is lying.

Other tells include: using the words "sham" or "hoax", referring to the "radical left", attacking the media, and speaking audibly.

That tiny ass boat was not making the 1500 km journey to the US. I can't believe they're making that claim.

Richard Hakluyt

The boat was probably full of Venezuelan stylists en route to their annual jolly in Trinidad.

It was registered to Trent N. Arugola, the secret service heard it as Tren de Aragua, it's an understandable mistake.

I mean, I'm sure Microsoft would skip Windows 13 to avoid being linked by the Trumpists to MS 13.

I have no idea if a boat like that could make the journey or not, and honestly it is kind of irrelevant.  This isn't a warzone, it's not like Afghanistan or Yemen where we couldn't reasonable just pick up the guys up.  This is what the Coast Guard does everyday.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Isn't the tell just that they communicate in any form at all? Like the Russians?

Just so. If you know where the boat is then you apprehend them on arrival, the $200m street value of cocaine discovered can be splashed all over the media, job done.

Quote from: crazy canuck on September 04, 2025, 07:08:44 PMThe Department of defence is now the department of war.

Trump missed a golden opportunity. He should've named it the department of peace.

Did he find "defence" a too beta male word or something?

Syt

Well, America doesn't have "soldiers" but "warfighters" :P

My thoughts as well.

And we know our ships in Norway.
This is just pure spite.

I think "warrior" culture and mindset around defence in the US is bad for America's military, but also possibly plays a part in soldiers later joining the police and their issues.
Let's bomb Russia!

Richard Hakluyt

I prefer to think of modern armed forces as highly trained professionals. "Warriors" are rabble like ISIS or Hamas who always get completely buggered when they encounter a professional force.
