IIRC Ryan was aware that the band's viewpoint and lyrics were not consistent with his own views, he said he just liked the music.  Nothing wrong with that, it's like Jews listening to Wagner or R.Strauss or the St. Matthew's Passion

The lyrics of RATM aren't particularly subtle and I do wonder how can one do the whole "love the music, don't share the politics" when Zack de la Rocha is shouting said politics at you.

Valmy

Well my favorite song is actually 'Vive Henri IV' so sometimes that just happens.

If that's the case, then he's an extremely superficial person.

Obligatory RATM tweet.

But surely not.

Paul Ryan was too good for this country, so he died and went to wherever failed politicians go to nurse their egos.

Remember when he was going to be the next Great Republican President?
Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV.

Ryan's mistake was that he only said "fuck, no!" when pressured to become Speaker of the House.  If he'd said "fuckity, fuckity, fuck, no, no, no, no, NO!" he'd be the presumptive Republican presidential candidate for 2024.  I don't think he'd have stopped Trump, though.

Amazing how an empty suit pseudo-wonk now doesn't look all that bad compared to today's GOP.

Yeah, I was something of a Paul Ryan fanboy.  I think he's come out of the Trump era less damaged than some other GOP politicians, but he's certainly diminished in my eyes.

He is hated as an establishment Republican by the Trump supporters so I doubt he has much of a hope for national office again. But hey people in Wisconsin may still like him.

He doesn't enunciate all that well though.

It feels a bit kind to not count a man who was Speaker two years ago as part of today's GOP. I'm not sure what he did that was better than any other Republican - he expressed his discomfort more eruditely, before rowing in behind Trump like the rest of them.

I don't think liking some music even though the lyrics don't match your views is a sign of weirdness or weakness. Not being able to appreciate art because of political differences sounds horrible.

Also, it's hardly weirder than being a Harvard graduate whose videos play on MTV and who pretends to be anti-establishment. Especially when he flexes his establishment credentials.

In today's GOP it's forbidden to express any level of discomfort.
