Gun forums are in an uproar about Trump's gun meeting today. I lol'd.

Personally I think it's a ploy by Trump. Shrewd to be sure.

I don't think it is any of that. I think it is just what he does, spouts some nonsense that's not necessarily connected to anything he plans to do.

Trump is only slightly more sophisticated than a mineral. Shrewdery is not in his nature.

Dunno if it's shrewd.  How many people will he win over?

QuotePoll: 57% of Americans think Trump is racist
A new Associated Press-NORC poll finds that the majority of Americans think President Trump is racist, including:

  • 57% of all adults
  • More than 80% of blacks, 75% of Hispanics, and nearly 50% of whites
  • 85% of Democrats and 21% of Republicans
Between the lines: The 57% figure is about the same as Trump disapproval numbers, (55% according to the RCP average). The findings seem to indicate that almost all of the country either approves of Trump's performance, or believes he's a racist.

They are forgetting about people who think he's racist and like it!

No, there are option other than "approve" and "disapprove."  Plus, there isn't statistical evidence that racist = disapproval, as garbo notes.  So there are lots of possible combination, not the two this author assumes must exist.

Bring on the wild, wacky world of 2002 again. The idiot is making noises about steel tariffs.

The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

I think we habitually overestimate Trump's shrewdness, and underestimate the number of people impressed with Trump's shrewdness.

The Minsky Moment

The gun thing is Trump as usual.  The man has contempt for the Constitution.  It is just a piece of paper for him.  The NRA was banking on the fact that gun rights would be the one civil liberty he would respect.  But Trump respects nothing but himself.  And raw power.

Big photo op.  Trump says he likes background checks and raising age to purchase assault rifles to 21.

So he's done it - announced steel and aluminum duties.  Trump wasn't clear, but it sounds like it even includes Canada and Mexico (which were left out in 2002 because, you know, it violates NAFTA).
