That fee isn't including her lawyers fees on top of it. Those usually run around $1000-$1500 per paper filing.

I doubt she was using a lawyer to file the extension.  Pretty sure it was just a form and a check.

We went through the whole green card/citizenship process without a lawyer.

why is it so damn expensive?  Max was a student, don't they give some kind of rebate to cover that?

Max wasn't a student until after he was a legal citizen. Regardless, the answer to your question is "no". They don't.

Your wife wasn't a DACA person filing her paperwork on her own at 23 years old. And I'm guessing that if her lawyer is the one speaking on her behalf right now, her lawyer probably has something to do with the filings.

My wife was was close to that age, and only had me to help out.  Lord knows I'm no expert on federal paperwork.

But it looks like to renew Ms. Vargas had to complete another I-821D (should be a piece of cake if she had a copy of the original), an I-765 (simple two-pager), and send the check.  Seems like a 23-year old aspirant math teacher should be able to handle something like that herself.

If she had legal fees she couldn't come up with, I'm sure that would have been mentioned in one of the articles.  If Huffpo didn't mention it in their sympathetic article, there probably weren't legal fees.

Fair point, and I concede.

He's a pretty forgettable person.

He'll be completely forgotten when recalled to Moscow.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

In the midst of the Trumpening, it looks like we're going to try and get my wife's brother up here and get him a green card.  Should be fun #omgchainmigration #anchorsister

It looks like my brother's wife's brother is trying to make it up to Canada from Brazil! #anchorsisterindeed

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I hope, for your brother-in-law's sake, that it goes easily and well. Do you guys make enough to sponsor him? I'd assume yes, or you wouldn't be offering.

Haven't checked the guidelines recently but I'm pretty sure we're good. I've had to do the Affidavit of Support before to get a Visa for sisters in law.

Should be fine; Argentina is in the same WC Group as Germany.

That's because so many Germans moved there around 1945-6 or so, for some reason.
