Hmm, so that explains why you voted Hillary.  Blending in with the lefties in Iowa City!

The lefties probably all voted for Trump to spite us for not voting for their wretched Bernie.

It is always funny for me how mandatory personal ID's are such a mystical things for the anglo-saxon world. They are such a natural part of life in Hungary. When you are 14 you get issued one, then you have to renew a few times during your life.

I am all for civil liberties but I don't get it how this gets in the way. To me, it looks like it is actually EASIER to deny civil liberties to you, if your eligibility for them can be put in question due to lack of clear identification.

Didn't the UK block a national ID scheme because of privacy sort of concerns? A bit odd for that country but...

Also, I think there's probably a bit of possible xenophobia in it. Undocumented illegals, etc. Obviously not an issue in Hungary which has been pretty upfront on its position on migrants. :P

Works the same here. It's such a non-issue.

Or Jill Stein.

so, this is going around -- not confirmed though

QuoteOfficial as of this morning January 25, 2017:
DoD is under a hiring freeze. Per OSD direction: It applies to all prospective employees who had not entered onto duty as of 12 noon, January 22, 2017. It further applies to appointments of current Federal employees from other agencies into the DoD or a Military Department; appointments of current Federal employees moving between or within the DoD and a Military Department or between Military Departments; and reassignments or promotions of current Federal employees within any organization of the DoD or a Military Department. And it applies regardless of the status of any preexisting hiring discussions, tentative offers, or steps in preparation for a firm offer.

if true, this sucks for law grads or 3Ls who were accepted but haven't started working. especially if all departments adopt a similar stance

Already seen some reqs getting pulled, and for the ones that are active, if they didn't have their start dates identified with their prehire paperwork already in the can, candidates are getting "we'll call you when this whole thing blows over".

I have been LOL'ing quietly to myself.

I don't trust people who break bread with Putin.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

He wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish he'd go away...

It's such a non-issue.
It's a non-issue here in Washington because we have mail-in ballots.

I hear that you can vote online in Alaska. VOTER FRAUD!

Never understood either why it is even a topic.

Meri's question whether a country like the US that can issue a driver's license to most of its adult citizens would somehow not be able to issue ID cards is a bit strange. Seems like a trivial thing to do for a massive well-working government bureaucracy like the US. You put a man on the moon. That's surely harder.

Voting is controlled locally. We have one national election and even that is conducted like 51+ smaller elections taking place at the same time. So if there is fraud and blundering and so forth it is the fraud and blundering of the state and local governments.

If there was a political will to change that, you could. It's not rocket science.
