Quote from: Josquius on July 05, 2026, 02:57:12 AMIt's telling that the US had it's 250th anniversary.
The US.
A country famous for over the top nationalist flag waving America fuck yeah sort of stuff.
You'd think this would be their time.

And the main image coming out of it is a stagnant pool full of algae.

Having a big successful over the top flag waving party requires organization, planning, and competence. Those are in short supply among our current administration.

There were great celebrations all over the country just not in DC.

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

QuoteAs democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Trump called up FIFA to overturn a red card.
And got his way. Who says bullying does not work?

I'm reminded again of Martin Amis on Trump:
QuotePerhaps that's the defining asset: a crocodilian nose for inert and preferably moribund prey.

Trump can sense when an entity is no longer strong enough or lithe enough to evade predation. He did it with that white elephant, the Grand Old Party, whose salaried employers never saw him coming, even when he was there, and whose ruins he now bestrides. The question is, Can he do it with American democracy?
Let's bomb Russia!

Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

I often think about that quote.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Trump does have a few legitimate talents, and unfortunately he uses them to bad ends.  He really does have an amazing smell for weakness, and that's one reason his nicknames usually stick to people and sink them, while others who try to mimic him without having his sense of smell look silly.  He also innately understands how sick people are of performative ceremonies, to the point that they'll prefer earnest nastiness over performative decorum.

Yep. The man has almost supernatural talents, too bad he only has ever used them for selfish ends.

His talents are an ability to sense weakness, a complete lack of shame, the ability to deceive large numbers of people, and the ability to escape the consequences for moral and criminal violations.  I don't know how you could put those to good use.

Which are instincts one would think would make him a good CEO. But hes not. Keeps going bankrupt. Guess his innate stupidity overrides his other useful, if loathful, qualities.

Trump has all the talent of an elementary school yard bully. It turns out that American culture rewards that serve a behavior.
