And lots of people who were smugly prophesying about the midterms (Buttigieg, for instance) and now seemingly only waking up to the corrupt Supreme Court shenanigans. I often (exasperatedly) watch Heather Richardson's stream: comments on her videos alternate between « give me hope » and « vote vote vote ».

The midterms matter.  And one of the problems we are having in America is a sense of powerlessness and the attitude of resignation. So yes it's important to mobilize voters and convince them it's worth it to vote and convince others to do so.  This is not the time for cool ironic detachment.

Of course the Supreme Court is corrupt, we've known that for years now.  Yes the deck is totally stacked against the Democrats and yes worse is come.  That just means push back harder.  Orbanate these motherfuckers.

I entirely agree. My schtick isn't cynicism: if anything, it's about the virtues of direct political action. My whole point is that electoral politics isn't nearly enough anymore, and people who put all their eggs in that basket are still hoping for some magical realignment, and for some return to normalcy. I have said for years that Americans need to get involved way more than simply pinning their hopes on the bygone dynamics of former electoral politics. Hence my exasperation with that sort of message, which often threatens to conflate hope with comfort, apathy, or the illusion of activism that social networks provide. I applaud anyone who argues for relentless political action that would go beyond voting - which, of course doesn't exclude voting. My fear is that you have a lot of your fellow citizens to convince still.
