I dont get it, were reporters just stumbling around the Pentagon aimlessly before?
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

No.  I saw a reporter maybe twice in the three years I worked there. They enter the building for interviews and meetings.  They don't hang out there waiting for something reportable to happen.
The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

The Minsky Moment

QuoteHegseth can revoke press access to reporters who ask anyone in the Defense Department for information — classified or otherwise — that he has not approved for release

I assume the objection is to this, a straightforward violation of the First Amendment.

The good news is that we don't have to worry about $50 toilet paper at the Pentagon anymore; they use obsolete paper copies of the US Constitution for that now.
We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.

... but only if the Supreme Court says so. :(

The Minsky Moment

At this point, I don't think Supreme Court decisions can be taken as precedential.  No one thinks that the holdings the Court has been announcing over the past 6 months expanding executive power will be honored if the Democrats ever retake the White House.

They will bend over backwards to figure out a random argument why all this doesn't apply to Democrat presidents.

"Trump is no longer President, therefore the case is clearly distinguishable"

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

Let's make that at least 1.5 years (to encompass the immunity decision).

But even then, one of the first practical acts* of a theoretical new Democratic administration (and lets also assume a Senate majority) will have to be to expand the membership of the USSC.

*maybe before/after having most of the current administration arrested for corruption/malfeasance/abuse of office.

I take it for granted Trump will issue a mass pardon, so one less thing to do.

Yeah, sadly I think that will become the new tradition.  General pardons on the way out for everyone involved.

FDR had trouble expanding the court to bring in all the legislative changes he wanted to make. I am not so sure the Democrats will be able to do it now.

The Brain

A lesson of the 1930s is that the military won't oppose dictatorship. And nothing in the US today suggests that they will.

Alas, a new administration might have to take from the Trump playbook...just do it anyway.

That is one of the sadder things about all of this madness...much of what the administration has done cannot be easily undone without using the same methods.

I have seen nothing that really warrants the sort of smugness some Democrats are displaying re: "the next administration".

Nor am I.  And even if successful, in 50-ish years, the USSC might outnumber the Senate.
