Quote from: Norgy on September 12, 2025, 03:40:15 AMBut Obama wore a brown suit!!

The brown on his suit wasn't the problem, it was the brown in his skin.

Don't be racist. The issue was the brown suit, but that was forgivable because black men don't know fashion.
The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

And white men can't jump, I hear.

Alright, I will stop now.

QuoteUS President Donald Trump has just posted a tribute to Charlie Kirk on his social media platform, Truth Social, after FBI and Utah officials held a news conference on the investigation into the shooting.

"Everybody loved Charlie!", Trump writes alongside a picture of the pair embracing, with US and Israeli flags behind them. The picture contains the words: 'Great Charlie Kirk. R.I.P Shlomo perl."

"I've never been quite sure what the point of a eunuch is, if truth be told. It seems to me they're only men with the useful bits cut off."
I drank because I wanted to drown my sorrows, but now the damned things have learned to swim.

Is that a Hebrew salutation?

edit:
I looked it up and he's someone I've not heard of before, an Israeli holocaust survivor author. Yes that 'tweet' doesn't make a lot of sense.

I've no doubt the movement will go on and will be pitching to Trump and the American right. But I think not punishing an attempted coup was a mistake.

The Minsky Moment

The implication of Trump's tweet is that Charlie Kirk was really a crypto Jew masquerading as a Nazi for cover.
We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.

Yeah agreed.

Perhaps they realized they couldn't actually successfully punish Trump, and that any punishment attempted to inflict would be visited on themselves tenfold when the Trumpists gained power at some point.

Bolsonaro really deserved it.
I have friends from Brazil. They loathe the man.

Friendly reminder: Brazil had a brutal military regime for decades into the 80s. Bolsonaro was an officer then.

Lula certainly has his faults, but he is not being messed with. At all.

Sophie Scholl

Rubio has vowed US retribution against Brazil for the ruling and Trump was saying what a great guy he was again.  :glare:
"Everything that brought you here -- all the things that made you a prisoner of past sins -- they are gone. Forever and for good. So let the past go... and live."

"Somebody, after all, had to make a start. What we wrote and said is also believed by many others. They just don't dare express themselves as we did."

I think it as simple as this. Liberal Democratic institutions survived Balsonara's presidency in Brazil.  They did not survive Trump's first presidency, largely because of the USSC appointments.

But it was a close run thing in Brazil. Democratic institutions need to be nurtured and defended.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

Isn't prosecuting former presidents / impeaching presidents just the Brazilian way?

Yeah, I think Dilma and Lula's prosecutions were very politically motivated (as, indeed, was Lula's release).

Never thought I'd see the day where Brazil has stronger safeguards for democracy than the US, but here we are now.

As glad as I am to see Lula succeed I am not going to start sucking Brazil's dick just yet. Politically going after your opponents does not necessarily a sign of a strong democracy.

The fact this makes Trump and his thugs sad is certainly a plus.

Oh no, I agree they still suck... which isn't exactly the same as a check on the US side of the tally :D
