That people in the ROTW are upset with the US because of tariffs is a Russia/US talking point.

There is no period in US history that I am aware of in which fascists were in power.

If Maple Millhouse really is a fascist, there is not that many ways to resist. First independence, then violence. I guess.

Altho YIs point is interesting. If both the US and Canada are fascist states there might be no way out. A nightmare scenario.

QuoteA kidney transplant specialist and professor at Brown University's medical school has been deported from the United States, even though she had a valid visa and a court order temporarily blocking her expulsion, according to her lawyer and court papers.

Dr. Rasha Alawieh, 34, is a Lebanese citizen who had traveled to her home country last month to visit relatives. She was detained on Thursday when she returned from that trip to the United States, according to a court complaint filed by her cousin Yara Chehab.

Judge Leo T. Sorokin of the Federal District Court in Massachusetts ordered the government on Friday evening to provide the court with 48 hours' notice before deporting Dr. Alawieh. But she was put on a flight to Paris, presumably on her way to Lebanon.

In a second order filed Sunday morning, the judge said there was reason to believe U.S. Customs and Border Protection had willfully disobeyed his previous order to give the court notice before expelling the doctor. He said he had followed "common practice in this district as it has been for years," and ordered the federal agency to respond to what he called "serious allegations."

For people who have forgotten, or never learned about the electoral success fascists had in the US, I recommend both seasons of this podcast

Quote from: Razgovory on March 17, 2025, 01:07:23 AMSee, this is what happens when you use "fascism" too loosely.  You have some Canadians trying to get you to burn shit down because they are upset over tariffs on aluminum and wood.

Canadians sigh when you talk about tariffs. It's stupid and counterproductive, but nothing we haven't dealt with before.

We get mad when you talk about annexation. That's putin talk, exactly the same retorique he used about Ukraine. I wish you yanks could tell the difference.

It's not the fucking tariffs, it's the 51st state bullshit.

But anyways. Keep thinking there's nothing major going on and it's business as usual. It ain't my country going down the shitter.

Then go cry about it.  It's not my job, or the job of any American to commit violence to make you feel better about Trump trolling you.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Republicans are proud of their work.  Raz is next on the list of parasites to deport from their pure country.  These are people who voted for him, btw.

There is no such thing as trolling when it comes to certain subjects.  There is no trolling about bombs to TSA, for example, and there is no trolling about questioning the sovereignty of a foreign nation.

The US is not fascist yet, but if Trump's government continues on the current trajectory it could well be.

This has nothing to do with tariffs and everything to do with the rule of law, the separation of powers, disabling democracy, and the persecution of political opponents and those designated as "the enemy within".

To be clear, the US is not there yet (imo) - in spite of the rhetoric (trolling) - which is why the jury is still out

This deserves emphasis.
Americans may have become desensitized to Trump's outrages through relentless media sanewashing.

But when the Commander-in-Chief of a powerful armed force threatens other countries with invasion of annexation, or makes demands about border changes, that is an unequivocally hostile act.  It is not unreasonable for the targets of such conduct to treat the US as a hostile foreign power.  In fact, it would be unreasonable to do otherwise.
