Odd this thread is getting fewer posts now it's been pinned to the top or maybe the BSer-in-chief is on another long weekend break?   :hmm:

You would know for sure if you followed him on Twitter.

Maybe they are taking a weekend break.

Trump takes the weekend off just like he's the CEO of any big business.

Unusually for him he's partially right, well 2/7th s ; America could tick over quite nicely without him and his goons, now if we could only persuade him to take the other 5 days a week off.

Sometimes I've got shit to do.

isn't that when Trump tweets?

He Tweets when he's coming down from his all-night coke bender at Zero Dark Thirty on Saturday mornings, when nobody is around and there are no cartoons on. I sleep in and miss them.

Making China Great Again

http://money.cnn.com/2017/06/20/news/companies/ford-focus-china/index.html

QuoteFord will shift production of the Focus compact car from the United States to China. And in a first for the automaker, it will ship many of these cars back to the U.S. to sell. . . . [T]he company's decision to shift production of small cars to Mexico became a hot-button issue during last year's presidential campaign, when then-candidate Donald Trump repeatedly attacked the company' for exporting jobs from the United States.  . . . In January, Ford announced that it had canceled plans to build a new plant in Mexico to build the Focus. Trump heralded that as a victory, even though Ford said it would still build the Focus in Mexico, just at an existing plant.

When asked about Ford's move Tuesday, White House press secretary Sean Spicer deferred to Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, who did not criticize the automaker.

After lambasting China throughout his campaign, Trump has been very friendly to them as President.  The intervening grant of trademark rights to Trump (after years of frustrating failure to secure them) and the grant of additional trademark rights to Ivanka the same day she met President Xi of course has nothing to do with this policy shift.  Nor should there be any concern that Wilbur Ross' ethics agreement permitted him to retain shipping interests, that presumably would benefit from higher level of goods shipments from China, as opposed to Mexico.

This is IMO a pretty big deal.  It should not be a goal of US foreign policy or commercial policy to be diverting manufacturing from Mexico to China, but that is exactly what the administration's signature trade policy agenda is doing.

How have you concluded that this move has anything to do with government policy Joan?

The Minsky Moment

Because the cancellation of the Mexico plant was announced with great fanfare in January, after Trump specifically attacked that plant in his campaign stump speech, and accompanied by a call from Bill Ford to Trump.

I thought it was later revealed that the cancellation had been previously planned and was not in fact a cancellation, rather a retooling to build a different car.

The Focus plant was cancelled.  The Michigan plant expansion - announced at the same time to give the impression of linkage - was in fact a retooling in build something different and was unrelated to the Mexican plant closure.

At the time Ford said that the Focus production would continue in Mexico, although in a different, already existing plant.  However, now we know different - some Focus production will continue in Mexico, the rest will be shipped to China.
