1.3 million people a year are killed in road traffic accidents. Of course, as that old cynic Stalin would say, that is merely a statistic.

There are terrible individual tragedies behind any death; but if we truly felt misery from them then their sheer number would make life unbearable.

Not many people are killed by terrorism. I expect the security services to try and prevent terrorism but have never felt an iota of fear over terrorism, even when I heard the bombs going off in London back in the 1970s...............and I am not a brave man.
