So it's that time of year again, it looks to be wearables that are topping the lists again. They've still not quite gotten them right if you ask me.

Although some of them are in the right direction like the Huawei watch and some of the new fitness trackers. Maybe next year! The fitbit smartwatch is also very close, although I'm not sure I like the design.

I bought one of these the other day, I guess it doesn't really count does it?

Actually Liep, I looked at that fitness band you linked to in the shipping post of yours and thought it might be worth a trying, so I might pull the trigger on one as it's so cheap; though if I was truly a cheapskate I'd wait for you to report just how good it actually was.  :D

Heh, I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple of years, dumb wrist watches make a comeback, especially amongst young people as the next cool thing, the uber cool ones being mechanical non-bling* watches.

*which never went out of 'fashion' for those types of people who liked them.

There were probably a hundred different wearables exhibitors. The other two that surprised me with their sheer number were 3d printers and flying camera drones. There were at least 30 each of those.

A month later and it's now in Denmark. Unfortunately customs seized it as they do with some shipments from outside Europe, I expect they thought my package would be worth more than $15, but never the less they'll probably charge me €50 for taxes and handling fees. <_<

In the immediate post-war period did the Danish post office inadvertently recruit some stay behind Nazi sabotage agents?

I think this is very plausible. 7 days in customs so far and not a word from them and the customer support phone is busy with the most annoying waiting music ever with this looped over it: "You can find all information online, but if you really wish to wait you can of course do so." I couldn't take more than 10 minutes so I'm considering that package lost.

Next time I'll offer to buy it for you and then post it on to Denmark from Blighty, because the UK post office has it about right, they don't bother at all with personal items below $50 (I think this is the current cut off point) and when it's a declared business transaction or personal over the limit, a postman just turns up at your door so you can pay then and there. Or alternatively at the local depot, later in the day.

Not that I've bought anything of value from China in a long time.

Josquius

In the uk I recall once buying  a game from the US that was caught by customs.  Had to pay a few quid on it.
Though generally yes. The uk isn't half as bad as some places.

Latest development: I finally received an invoice from customs. It's for €26 so I'm just going to pay that even if it's €3 VAT and €23 administrative fees. :bleeding:

Duque de Bragança

Here in France, it's more like 12-15 € of administratives fees plus VAT. Sometimes parcels get through without any further duties e.g DVD/Blu-rays/videogames. Under 22 € value there's no problem as well.

The post office called me today to tell me that the package was missing, but they were pretty sure customs just forgot to scan it at the airport terminal so it was still there and I shouldn't worry. Just a couple days more and I should receive it.

So customs called today and they still can't find it but they're still trying they say. Yay!

Have you suggested they search down the back of the sofa?  :bowler:
