Quote from: Grey Fox on January 15, 2026, 11:22:30 AMThey don't understand how state sponsored murders are different from any other murders, so yeah. They expect protests and outrage at all of them.

I mean the murderer was tracked down and captured and found guilty and will be sentenced so...where is the problem? In that case the Vice President and President did not come out and try to insinuate the victim was actually a criminal who brought it on himself and that the murderer did nothing wrong.

I think the problem is that a murder happened and so must be protested.

Yeah well this is a country of over 300 million people. If we protested every time a crime was committed we would be protesting 24/7.

No the problem is that the murderer was an immigrant, a Somali to make it even worse, ergo liberal policies of not kicking colour people out have led to murder ergo the Left has no moral grounds to complain about ICE head-shotting people.

No white person has ever committed a murder before?

The guy was just an immigrant, not even illegal.

Oh and Trump was President when this crime was committed. Just saying.

I am not saying it's rational, I am just explaining what it is.

It's not murder when they're white.  It's a tragic accident, it's boys being boys, it's the victim getting what she deserved, etc.

And because none of that made any Goddamn sense the creator made wrote this to explain his joke.

BAGGER: (spilling my groceries on the floor) Oh God. I'm so sorry. This isn't what I'm supposed to do. / ME: How are you supposed to do it? / MANAGER: She means she was gonna be a fox. In the woods and shit. But something happened and she got stuck. / BAGGER: (crying) Got so stuck.
Below this conversation is a Penguin Classics book cover for Karl Marx's "Capital Volume I." The image shows a dark cover with the Penguin Classics logo (an orange penguin) at the top and the author and title in white text.
🤔 Concise Analysis
The joke plays on Karl Marx's concept of alienated labor from "Capital." The bagger represents workers who are stuck doing jobs that don't match their nature or potential. The absurd "fox in the woods" dream makes the point funny but shows how capitalism forces people into jobs that feel completely wrong for them, causing genuine distress.
📖 Additional Background
Karl Marx wrote "Capital" to explain how capitalism works and why workers often feel miserable. One key idea is "alienation," which means workers feel disconnected from their true selves because they have to do repetitive, meaningless jobs just to survive. Marx thought humans should be free to develop their talents and interests, but capitalism traps them in whatever job pays the bills. The meme exaggerates this with the ridiculous "fox" example, but the emotional core (feeling stuck in the wrong life, apologizing for failing at tasks you never wanted to do) captures Marx's argument about how work under capitalism damages human dignity and potential.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

If had graduated, I probably wouldn't have someone explain that to me.  I've missed out on so much.

I think you could be Karl Marx and not understand that joke.

Besides I don't recall Marx claimed that alienation was because everybody wasn't doing their dream job. It was about the fact that the owner got the fruits of your labor.

Admiral Yi

I thought alienation was a Max Weber concept about the boredom of industrial labor.

Quote from: Admiral Yi on Today at 12:18:35 AMI thought alienation was a Max Weber concept about the boredom of industrial labor.

No. He picked up from Marx but was more into Rationalization: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rationalization_(sociology)

Also, alienation is not about "boredom," Wikipedia has a basic summary:

QuoteThe theoretical basis of alienation is that a worker invariably loses the ability to determine life and destiny when deprived of the right to think of themselves as the director of their own actions; to determine the character of these actions; to define relationships with other people; and to own those items of value from goods and services, produced by their own labour. Although the worker is an autonomous, self-realised human being, as an economic entity this worker is directed to goals and diverted to activities that are dictated by the bourgeoisie—who own the means of production—in order to extract from the worker the maximum amount of surplus value in the course of business competition among industrialists.

(Sorry, bit rusty, been 30 years since we learned that in school - we spent a year on the history of economic thought from Smith to Galbraith.)

crazy canuck

Webber was anomie, not alienation in the way Marx explained both its cause and effect.

Webber was about a lack of ethics to provide meaning.  Not economic exploitation.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.
