Nobody has mentioned the most important fact, namely the cost?  The basic rate is US$1,279 per person, but it looks like they need two people per room, so the minimum is actually double that at US$2,558.  Not to mention the room is an interior room, meaning it likely has four solid walls and no window.  Add taxes and mandatory gratuity at US$351 for two and the total comes close to US$3k. Food is included but drinks are not.  I can drink nothing but tap water (and have actually done that on a cruise ship), but it is kinda hard to avoid paying for the airtickets from Hong Kong to Los Angeles and back.  Also must be added to the bill are all the costs associated with leaving the cruise ship at the various ports, and my experience is that those can be considerable.

That's not really the most important part.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Well it kind of is. Catering to paranoia is profitable.

So there's a "strawman conspiracy", according to these fellows. Might be popular around here?  :P

If something is expensive but undesirable, then the cost is not the factor preventing you from doing it.

Way to throw out the strawman argument.

Wish I'd heard of this one when I wrote this feature on themed cruises. I covered Star Wars, Lord of The Rings, heavy metal and murder mystery cruises, among others. Keep your eye out for some very nerdy GoT and Star Wars references.

We could have the world's first cruse ship powered entirely by the eye-rolling of its captain.  ;)
