Also, apparently "Hungarian Goulash" means meaty ragu poured over noodles to the staff. ED HUNGRY AND CRANKY.

I made spaghetti on Friday night, been eating it all weekend.

You know, I put myself through undergraduate history by working the 1-10pm shift at a nursing home.  That sounds about right.  Of course, we had the guy yelling

"I'm cold as hell!
God dammit I'm cold as hell!
Jesus Chrsit I'm cold as hell!"

Over and over all night.  Rollie was not a hoot...
I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

I don't understand how hospitals can be so expensive yet have such terrible food.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Exactly what kind of rehab are you doing that it requires you to bunk down in the death ranch?

D's mom stays at a nursing home and there is an old woman there who keeps yelling (just "AAAAAAAARGH") for days on end. She is not in any physical pain, it is just psychological.

I can see how one could go mad in a place like this if one worked there.

The wife had surgery a few years ago and they decided to admit her to the hospital overnight due to some minor complications.  She had a room across the hall from some senile old lady.  You could set your watch by the frequency with which said old lady screamed for a nurse.  Every time the nurse walked in her room, the old lady meekly said, "I don't feel good" to which they replied by telling her whatever her ailment was.  Then she'd plead with them to let her go home.  This literally happened like every five minutes.  Drove me crazy for a few minutes until I made a sort of game of it by checking my watch each time and mouthing the dialogue.

I once went to the ER with something I thought I needed to get checked out, but was nothing at all. They kept me around most of the night. Just the atmosphere of the place made me feel like I was sick by the time they let me leave.

The forcing of patients to use wheelchairs may make sense to insurers, but it is psychologically enfeebling.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.

I'm embarrassed. I've been making the mistake of associating with you. It won't happen again. :)
