Murat will winter in Mombasa.

I'll take 1 VP for Bellaso.
The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Should be +1 (8 total) thanks to completion of the Suez.

Okay. Uploading another update and dealing cards in a moment.

Habbaku

Just a reminder, but I am missing 1 cavalry unit in Istanbul that I forgot to add.  I'll add it during spring deployment.

What are the special house rules on mandatory events?

I'm referring to this:

Remember, if you get Selim II, give it to Ottoman and draw a replacement.

Habbaku

Not sure what you mean, Max. Did you somehow draw that card?

No, but I got Murad 3. Since I don't know where that rule comes from I don't know whether to treat it the same way.

No, it only applies to Selim II because that card is automatically given to Ottomans on turn 2 if it wasn't played on turn 1. You keep the Murad card and play it yourself.

Berkut

Ahhh, ok. That "rule" is actually a VQ rule specific to the Ottomans:

QuoteCard Bonus: The card bonus of a ruler evaluates whether or not
a ruler was exceptionally resourceful in mobilizing support for his
endeavors. A card bonus is usually given in terms of the number of
extra cards a power is dealt when led by this ruler. The one exception
is Suleiman's card bonus that:
a) allows the Ottoman player to retain both his Home cards in
his hand for that turn, and
b) gives the Ottoman the Selim II card at the start of Turn 2 if
the card is still in the deck.

It has no bearing on other Mandatory events.

As I warned well in advance, I am just travelling back home, having spent the week working on a conference. I would not mind an extension into the weekend so that people can actually reply to what I am yet to write.
