I got a little overexcited by TIE Fighter's re-release and purchased a Thrustmaster T.Flight Hotas X flight stick, so I was just wondering if anybody had recommendations on good dogfighting games where I can make use of the stick outside of the Lucasarts games?

GOG has the Wing Commander series and Strike Commander. They also have Freespace 2, Descent 1&2, and Red Baron.

For something of a more serious sim, there's Il-2, also on GoG. Also, the re-released Wings. Rise of Flight is on Steam, but it's DLC hell. If you can get Air Combat Simulator 3, there's the mod-add on Over Flanders Field for WW1 flying.

Note: I've not really played any of those games, except Wing Commander on SNES. :P

World of Warplanes is suprisingly good re: flight dynamics, and much more stable than that other Russian hot mess.  And it's free along the World of Tanks method.

I loved Wing Commander 2 and the Secret Missions so much when I was in middle school.
It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Person favorite was Crimson skies, but it's fairly old.  Still it's fantastic.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

For space, Free space 1 and 2 are fantastic games. F2 has a great community of modders, too, so you'll find entire new campaigns created by fans.

Strike Suit Zero is out on Gog, too, but I've never tried it

Il-2's rather dated, don't you think?

you want to go hardcore, go Falcon 4.0: Allied Force.  There's nothing more realistic than spending 40 minutes doing a cold start .
