He was also kinda forgetting about Vietnam when he went on about the God given right the US has to win all its wars.

Oh my God never get those dudes going about Vietnam.

I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

And Korea...and Afghanistan...and War of 1812...

Korea was a victory, in that the the overall objective was achieved (protection/liberation of South Korea).

Vietnam/Iraq can be called losses, because the objectives were not achieved (even if the imbalance in casualties against "the enemy" very much on our side...but that didn't work for the Nazis either).

Afghanistan is still an open question....but doesn't look good.

Pancho Villa expedition wasn't exactly a big success.  Barbary war wasn't a great victory either.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

It wasn't?  I thought after that the Barbary Pirates stopped capturing our ships and the Marines won glory on the shores of Tripoli.  To be fair I may not be entirely well informed about that conflict.

We won the Korean Expedition of 1871 at least.

Nah it was a victory until Jane Fonda singlehandedly undermined the whole war effort.

I thought Shores of Tripoli was a victory too.

A quick scan of the wiki articles on the 1st/2nd Barbary Wars make it look like a general clusterfuck, for both sides.

And 8 marines leading hundreds of Greek mercenaries makes the "Shores of Tripoli" seem more of a PR victory (but then it worked for Cortez).

We freed out dudes and didn't pay any more tribute.

We did pay the tribute, we just called it a ransom.  They still took Americans hostages.  The second Barbary War seems have bit more of an effect, though the British suppression of piracy in the region was probably a bigger factor.

Hey, if America wants to conquer the world I'm sure half of the third world would jump at the chance to be annexed by the US.

Maybe, but we are 0-2 with Iraq and Afghanistan.
Not really examples of people being asked if they wanted to join the US.
In that case the middle east would likely be a spotty area but many in Africa would jump at it.

Actually, I'd be surprised if any did.

No African regime will want some outsiders cutting in on their corruption.

Josquius

The regimes wouldnt. Im talking about the people though. Fuck nationalism if it means the freedom to move to the west and massive investment in their land to bring it to western standards.
