OK.  Carte blanche until December 1st, starting at which point you're on the hook.

Deal?

Faith-based legislation for everything: US

I'd say Iran beats us there.  I'm with Yi, US does really well in pop culture.  I don't know if we were the first but, we were certainly the best at making culture a commodity.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Shelf, I've recently gotten my old dear out from 35 days of hospital care, the level of which would probably have bankrupted her in a few other countries.

So I ended up observing how some of the other ward patients behaved, and nearly to a women the old one's 60 plus wouldn't complain much it at all and treated the experience stoically. The two younger ones I saw, early 30s and mid-late 20s, had the nurses running all over the place at their beck and call; sometimes there'd be 3 staff dealing with their request, no matter too trivial to not need immediate attention, whilst at the same time the other 5 older patients sat/lay quietly, reading, chating, watching tv and generally trying to not make too much of a fuss.
I don't think its so simple as an age divide.
I too am often guilty of not wanting to bother people and make a fuss.
Perhaps a stripey class thing? True working class people don't like to bother others whilst the middle classes (because they feel entitled to) and non-working classes (because they're dicks) do.

crazy canuck

Although I think we can still make improvements I am not sure I would want to swap Canada's health care system for any other system in the world.

Wine - Italy but France is of course a very close second.
Beer - I agree with the poster that said that with micro breweries opening everywhere most everyone does it well now.
Food - France with Italy a very close second.

The rest isnt that important.  :D

I would say French and Italian wines are overrated. Especially the whites.

I prefer French and Italian, yes. :D

The new world, especially Argentina, as well as Israel and South Africa are good places to get reasonably priced, good white wine from. Plus Argentina is the only country in the world that grows my favourite torrontes.

Valmy

Yeah Nelson Mandela is my favorite terrorist as well.

Italy has the best reds: barollo and barbaresco.

I think age and class combined make it sometimes literally lethal though. With my elderly relatives there's a real sense of deference to the doctor. He's the professional. They'd never think of challenging him or going to get a second opinion. It probably doesn't help that for a very long time doctors have behaved in that superior way they have.

Whereas you go a generation down that deference has faded a lot even if they still don't want to make a fuss.
Let's bomb Russia!
