Being a descendant of Ruthenians who immigrated to Canada from the Austria-Hungary Empire in the early 1900s, I can confirm that it is term used to identify Ukrainians who lived in the North Eastern region of the Empire.

I'm also descended from 1900s immigrants from that region though in my case German & Romanian.  I have read many/most of the minorities in those provinces emigrated to Canada.

We (Canada) lied to them. None of our promotional material could show snow, just flowing golden fields of wheat. Your ancestors were in for a shock come winter

Yep, That is where the Ruthenian side settled too,  and if one were to search my last name followed by "Corner" one would find the place in Manitoba where my German great grandfather settled about the same time.

The article is disturbing.  It's hard to foresee Russia righting itself anytime in the foreseeable future given the level of indoctrination and militarization going on.

Putin rejected the ceasefire ultimatum starting tomorrow but announced ceasefire talks in Istanbul. Trump then immediately ambushed Zelensky and demanded he meet Putin in Istanbul. Making the Europeans look like sidelined chumps (again). 

So now Zelensky agreed to meet Putin next Thursday in Istanbul, putting the ball back in his corner.

How do the Europeans look like chumps? My understanding is that they've said "ceasefire or we increase aid to Ukraine"?

If that's the case, Putin does not agree to a ceasefire, and they do indeed increase support to Ukraine they're not chumps. And if Putin and Zelensky agree to a ceasefire , why does it matter if it was in Istanbul or somewhere else?
