Then it is problematic.  Decades ago Mexico consistently did better than the US.  Now, the US is at least on par with Mexico.

The US didn't get serious again with the World Cup and Soccer until the 70s that is why the sudden resurgence in the mid 80s.  I have no idea what brought that on.  Also there were a couple times where like Honduras or somebody would leave Mexico at home back in the day.

The rivalry with Mexico is the only interesting thing about CONCACAF, so I milk it for all its worth.  I get pretty worked up with Mexican hatred every tourney.  They make it easy though with their fifth columnists showing up to every US-Mexico match played in the US.

We both got to the round of 16 after finishing second in our groups. Considering no common opponents there is only so much conclusion that can be drawn.

They were fourth in qualifying and only avoided fifth through a miracle bailout by the US. We were first. We won the last gold cup in a final against Panama.
