Her book "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" had the single greatest affect on me in my high school years.
Yesterday, upon the stair,

I remember being very effected by that book in fifth grade while having no idea why.  It is sort of funny now remembering how completely ignorant I was of the book's historical context.
