:weep:

Her book "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" had the single greatest affect on me in my high school years.
Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish he'd go away...

Made a good, varied contribution.  :)

Or a good innings as we English say.

Oh no!  She was a national treasure  :(

RIP Dr. Angelou.  I loved everything you wrote and enjoyed listening to everything you had to say.

I drank because I wanted to drown my sorrows, but now the damned things have learned to swim.

I remember being very effected by that book in fifth grade while having no idea why.  It is sort of funny now remembering how completely ignorant I was of the book's historical context.

She was a voice we needed to hear, even especially when it made us uncomfortable.
The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

I was really shocked to hear this this morning. I don't know why.

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.
