May 1st aka labor day, so today is no labor.

As the Inner City is clogged with light red (social democrats) to dark red (communists), I decided to head to Kunsthistorisches Museum. Last time I was there was two years ago with Duque De Braganca, and I figured that I should finally check out the re-opened wing, the Kunstkammer which re-opened last year after being closed for a decade.

I wanted to check it out last year, but never made it. Living 15 minutes on foot from the place now makes it a lot more likely that I will just drop by there (or their affiliated musuems), so I got myself an Annual Ticket. It's a nice collection, with some nice bling in that wing. Hilarious: watching the Habsburg underbite increase from one Emperor to the next. Afterwards I made the usual stroll through their antiquities section. I skipped the second floor and its paintings entirely this time and instead checked out their special exhibition on Fabergé. It was ok, but based on the people in the crowded room it was geared towards middle aged Slavic women. Also, taking pictures was verboten there (which an aide pointed out after I took a few shots).

All in all, 3 hours well spent.

Afterwards I went for lunch at one of my favorite eateries, where I had a Pfandlgulsch (thick goulash with lean beef in a small pan, served with a bread dumpling - very filling). And a hemp beer. D4H: Price was EUR 15.- including tip. :P

Pictures from the museum to follow, if any of them are presentable.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Thanks for the Monday off, comrades!

Today is our national super religious day of non-Communist prayer.  I have prayed solemnly to God to aid the Baltimore Orioles' bullpen.

Zmiinyi defenders: "Russian warship, go fuck yourself."

A Golden Galleon

A view of Prague, made from agate and jasper.

A 16th century globe.

In the back (didn't turn out too well): An Ottoman backscratcher, made from gold, rock crystal, rubies and other gems.

A dining table centerpiece gifted to Catherine of Sicily in 1808(?), showing the ruins of Paestum

The middle temple of that centerpiece.

Leopold I (IIRC) and his impressive underbite.

An ivory cup (lots of those, and cups carved from rock crystal, but those images didn't turn out too well - need a better camera)

A bezoar.

A dragon drinking horn, with satyr, standing on a turtle.

Egyptian stuff.

Egyptian comic strip.

Trajan

Septimius Severus

Marcus Aurelius

About 20 pictures are too blurry. I need a proper camera. :Embarrass:

Did you: pray?

Uh, yeah.  Duh.

I'm also in the Orioles bullpen prayer circle :)

Went by Trafalgar Square.

Got annoyed by the CPGB having their big banner of Stalin out. Then got annoyed at another Communist Party with their Stalin and Mao banner. Felt sentimental at all the unions out in force with their local banners. Was baffled by the huge Kurdish presence.

Went down to the town centre for the old fashioned May Day trade union demos. While I was bathed in sweaty Socialism, I got a call from a business school offering me a gig. There's surely some irony here.
