This thread made me think of 'Bring Your Daughter To The Slaughter' by Iron Maiden.  Therefore, it meets with my approval. :punk:

I don't, as a rule, leave my laptop on, so it's not really an issue for me. It's definitely something to keep in mind for Riley, though.
Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish he'd go away...

On a laptop all you should have to do is leave the lid closed.  Even if someone could turn the machine on all they would get is an extreme closeup of the keyboard.

So they get your fingerprints. No harm possible there.

I feel like Vanity Fair or New York magazine had a piece a few months back on another kid like this.

I did disable the device manager for my work computer. Don't need IT watching me.

It's not just about peeping toms. Or whatever the female equivalent of that is. Last year there was an incident where a hacker got in to the videoconference array of a Dow 30 company and listened clandestinely to their quarterly results meeting. Then they did some insider trading ahead of the announcements based on what they heard.

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

A guy from my neighbourhood was arrested for this as well recently.

Dude, no built-in webcam has a resolution that good.  Also, they're lacking in the lighting, so it's more like leaving the lens cap on the camera.

Gee, wasn't there a person on this board that kept telling you to go into engineering instead of law.  I wonder who that was...
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011
