I'm hoping this thread is not so far in the future as to offend any of you.

Anyway, I'll be in Orange County for a business conference the second week of October.  Because the conference is right across the street from Disneyland, Princesca is tagging along and we'll do 1-2 days there before the conference starts.  I'll also have approximately a day's worth of additional free time to burn.  Suggestions for stuff to do around there?  I had looked into going to San Diego (and we will be renting a car), but not sure if I'll have time to do anything substantial... I know the drive is not technically long, but the traffic around there... :bleeding:

Is San Juan Capistrano neat enough to warrant a trip? :hmm:

Orange County? Go see the OCC bikes, or get some Florida orange juice, or Disneyland.

Is this October 2014 or 2015??  :D

Aren't they in NY state?

The Orange counties I know are CA, FL, NY, but I'm sure there is a few more Orange County.

Is the name anything to do with the painted hue of some of the inhabitants?

Not exactly related, but kind of cool that the town* of Valencia (aka Magic Mountain) in California was named after the success of growing the Valencia orange there.

*or as wiki says - "planned community", it was always confusing to me as a child that I lived in Saugus but also Santa Clarita.

I like how city and county names are reused and repeated all over the place.

I love that movie.  Whatever happened to Colin Hanks? :(

Anyway, sorry, Cal, I won't be in California anytime soon. -_-

Orange County delenda est. Capistrano might be worth it if you're interested in Spanish colonial history.  If you want more theme parks, Knott's Berry Farm does great things in the run up to Halloween. Los Angeles will be a bit over an hour away in traffic but there are actually some decent museums there -- there's the Getty and then the LACMA, the Hammer Museum, and the Page Museum (art, art, and tar pits respectively) are right next to each other.
