Ok, some googling suggests that the uniforms were introduced in the 20s, and indeed patterned after the German interwar army uniform. They do look more like Luftwaffe than Army, though - Army had different collars.

Oh but that's a dress (?) uniform that I think they don't ever wear outside of parades/special events.  They generally look like this...

Military and police dress uniforms tend to look pretty similar. No big deal.
