I read Carson's wiki page.  Did he really say that if only the Jews had guns, there would be no Holocaust?  Because that is not just misguided, but probably beyond the vale.

I think you mean beyond the pale. Unless you think he's psychic.

Yeah

After reading more about him, I have serious difficulty reconciling his popularity and his positions

Well that's an anecdote about a GP. I wouldn't take that as a stand in for a specialist.

My anecdotal exposure to doctors - and anecdotes from people in med school - bears out the notion that medical qualifications are not a reliable indicator of sound judgement in any other area, nor of good character.

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Oh don't get me wrong. As someone who has had one of my duties be to regularly interview doctors, many have struck me as dumb as a box of hair. I'm just taking issue with the notion that most doctors only know about doctoring and not much else as characterized by GF.

So, Trump says American employees are paid too much?

Most of the Republican candidates said that, actually.

Re-introducing the gold standard would solve that problem right away -_-

Maybe America should import cheap labor then.

The Minsky Moment

Trump's big points at the debate were saying American workers are overpaid, expressing his admiration for "Operation Wetback" and praising the Middle East policy of his 60 Minutes "stablemate" Vlad Putin.

In any sane universe he would drop to 1% but then again in any sane universe that would have happened months before.  So far his position in the race seems unaffected by any application of logic, common sense, or decency.

I think you mean beyond the pale.  And yes, definitely so.

The Minsky Moment

A bigger concern is that for the GOP to be successful in a national election, it has to play to its perceived traditional strengths on national security and the economy.  These debates have exposed confusion and lack of initiative on both.

Well, if it is Trump or Carson, you get this "Kang or Kodos" thing going ... :hmm:

Personally, a much bigger concern to me is that it probably won't matter come election time.

My biggest concern isn't about the candidates themselves. You get the candidates the people demand.

My concern is about the people demanding these candidates.
