Foolish birds. In death, Orville has become more powerful than they could possibly have imagined.

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

QuoteCat Buried Alive In Concrete A Warning Message From Polygamists? (WARNING: GRAPHIC VIDEO)

A live cat was found recently half-buried in concrete, and the man who rescued the kitten believes it was a message from a pro-polygamy religious group.

The incident happened recently in Colorado City, Ariz., a major center for the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a Mormon sect that split off in the early 20th century in order to continue the controversial practice of plural marriage.

The kitten was discovered at the home of Isaac Wyler, a former church member, who has spoken out against the church and its controversial former leader Warren Jeffs, according to AzFamily.com.

Jeffs, who was found guilty last year of sexually assaulting two underage girls he had wed, is currently in protective custody in a prison in Palestine, Texas, serving a life term plus 20 years.

Andrew Chatwin, who, like Wyler, is a former member of the FDLS, found the cat inside one of a metal tube used to construct cement posts, according to RightThisMinute.com.

In order to rescue the cat, Chatwin had to cut the post and dig out the footing. He took the feline to an animal sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, where it died a few days later.

Chatwin, who left the FLDS 13 years ago, believes the cruel act was done by members of his former church. He claims both the threats and the animal killings have been going on for years.

Chatwin also claims that when he reported the cruel act to Colorado City sheriffs, they didn't seem too concerned.

"[The officer] kind of chuckled and laughed a little bit and then he said that if it was up to him, he'd just throw dirt on [the cat]," Chatwin said. "And this is coming from a city marshal who's a member of the FLDS Church."

Neither the FLDS or the Colorado City Sheriffs Dept. returned phone calls from The Huffington Post.

The U.S. Justice Department recently filed a lawsuit against government officials in Colorado City, and the neighboring border town of Hildale, Utah, for alleged civil rights violations, including acting as de-facto agents for the church, denying ex-members and non-members of the FLDS Church access to everything from police services to housing and utilities, according to KSTU-TV.

At the time the lawsuit was filed, Chatwin told the station that the Colorado City government was "a theocracy."

"They keep starving people right out of the community," he said. "To where they can't get employment, they can't get decent service. I can't even use the Hildale clinic that (is) here. I have to travel a half-hour, 45 minutes just to get a doctor's visit."

Video's pretty fucked up, but at least it has a happy ending.

Chinese kitten stows away on LA-bound freighter

CARSON, Calif. (AP) — A 3-month-old kitten appears alert after traveling from Shanghai to Los Angeles in a freight container on a boat.
The orange-and-white short-haired kitten traveled 6,500 miles without food or water and arrived Wednesday, officials say. Los Angeles County animal control officers are cautiously watching his health.
The kitten was retrieved from the container at a Compton-area business where it was delivered.
Animal control director Marcia Mayeda says the kitten ate and slept well at the Carson Animal Care Center. He woke up Thursday alert and responsive.
Mayeda says workers named him Ni Hao (NEE'-How), which means hello.
The kitten is quarantined, which is standard procedure after entering the U.S. from another country. When he recovers, gets his shots and is fixed, the shelter will look for foster and permanent homes.

Cat mayor celebrates 15 years on the job

QuoteTalkeetna, Alaska (KTUU) -- A cat named Stubbs has been the mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska for nearly all of his life.

It's been that way for more than a decade in the small tourist town that boasts nearly 900 residents.

The part-manx was named honorary mayor shortly after his birth, and now locals all know the cat as "Mayor Stubbs."

"He was just in the Alaska Magazine, and he's been featured in a few different things," said Lauri Stec, who works at Nagley's General Store in Talkeetna, where Stubbs hangs out most of the time.

As the story goes, 15 years ago several of the town residents didn't like the candidates who were running for mayor of Talkeetna, so as a joke, they encouraged enough people to elect Stubbs the cat as a write-in candidate.

He won.

Now, thanks to Stubbs, local tour guides have a little fun with the thousands of tourists who come through the town each summer.

"Their tour guides will trick them," said Skye Farrar, who also works at Nagley's. "They'll tell them to go to Nagley's and ask for the mayor."

"Oh my gosh, we probably have 30 to 40 people a day come in who are tourists wanting to see him," Stec said.

If you'd like to catch him in person, there's one afternoon appointment that locals say Stubbs always keeps at Nagley's.

"Every day he goes in there and has catnip in a wine glass," said Talkeetna resident Jerry Roach.

As word about Stubbs spreads, the folks at Nagley's say more people are stopping by the store, and even making trips to Alaska just to spot the 15-year-old cat.

Farrar summed up Stubbs' mayorship and the benefit of added tourism it's brought to the town: "I'm very confident that Talkeena will be A-OK, as long as we have Stubbs around."
