It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

Watching the Edge of War.  Wonderful production values but the story is pretty meh, and it's all based on the flimsy premise that
if only Chamberlain had declared war over the Sudetenland than the German army was poised to overthrow Hitler in a coup.
Not Visconti's but Losey's.
4K Digital print at the Cinémathèque

Losey's foray into genre cinema
(SF/psychological horror)
, a Hammer production, seemslike a forgotten classic. Starts as a British blouson noir/teddy boy/biker movie but quickly takes a darker turn.
A young Oliver Reed and an already middle-aged Walter Gottell (head of KGB in Moore-era Bonds) are the most recognisable names and faces nowadays. The latter is more of a supporting part though.

So, we've been watching Goliath with my mom when I go over to visit.

It's pretty entertaining. Billy Bob lends it a halo of legitimacy but the show is pretty trashy. It's one of those where nearly every single major character has or has had an affair with somebody else in the cast, just because.  :D

The episode of Bojack Horseman where he says he'll write a better book than Diane and then spends much of the episode finding excuses to procrastinate?

I feel personally attacked. :(

I keep trying to find the right state of mind to watch the last seasons of Bojack Horseman but I just can't - a bunch of it hits way too close to home  :P

I had to quit during first season the first time I watched. I feel I'm in a better headspace now (but I've mostly been watching low stakes, feel-good comedy over the last year or two :P ) to watch it.

I guess F is For Family saw to that - I wasn't expecting it to be so dark at times. :D Or at the very least it was a good indicator that if I enjoyed that show, I can Bojack another try.  :P

Apparently Netflix is currently filming pt. 2 of Tyler Rake with Chris Hemsworth in Vienna. They might be in town for two weeks, and they filmed some action scenes near the office towers on the Danube where I used to work.

The Larch

It seems that iconic 90s sitcom "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", which launched Will Smith to stardom, is getting, of all things, a remake, and not any kind of remake but a gritty and dramatic one... this is quite a head scratcher for me.

Some amateur guy made a trailer for...some reason. That sort of thing is normal on youtube, gritty dark reimagining of childhood classic.
Will Smith saw it and thought that's actually a good idea and set things in motion.

I dunno. It could be a half decent commentary on class. No reason to expect it'll automatically be bad. My expectations are it never gets much attention in the UK and is thoroughly meh.

because everything has to be gritty, with lots of pathos and angst these days.  They also like to have the lighting as dark as possible so that it is difficult to see jack shit.
PDH!

And we need an origin story for everyone <_<

They should revert to VHS-"quality" where even without dark ambients it is difficult to see jack shit (namely B&W movies such as Night of the Living Dead).  :P

You know, this is one area where thinking about it I have a lot of hope for Bel Air. Lets have a dark and gritty storyline in the Californian sunshine.

Come to think...Could this be why Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul work so well? :hmm:
