I was just going to post it's Two and a Half Men for gays.  :D

Stoker (2013)

What a dull mess. I'm not sure what Nicole Kidman was doing in this movie.

New girl is.... Meh. It has its moments. I like how they had to give zooey a literal lingerie model for a friend so she could be the ugly one.
Some episodes are good but there is a lot of dross and it overall just wears thin quickly.

She's still the pretty one imo.

Only watched an episode or two, didn't find it funny.

So, prompted by the opinions in this thread, I started Army of the Dead. I spot the running time: 148 minutes. Damn you to hell, Zach Snyder.

'Army of the Dead' - Entertaining, overly long, predictable plot turn, OK.

I don't blame him excusively but I hate that blockbusters now have to be over 2 hours long <_<

Watched State Funeral on Mubi which I strongly recommend. It's weirdly fascinating/compelling. It is a collection of footage from the days following the death of Stalin and his state funeral - some in black and white some in colour and all technically sharpened. From my understanding there were huge amounts of film shot after Stalin's death - presumably on the assumption that they'd be cut into propaganda films. But obviously de-Stalinisation happened instead meaning the footage wasn't ever really used.

It's now been edited - there's no voice-over or interviews or context so it's just great sound mixing of some of the official announcements/speeches plus appropriate music. But it is incredibly watchable for reasons I don't fully understand.

Watching a Norwegian Netflix series, Beforeigners. A straight police procedural with a time traveling twist. Refugees from the Viking Age start appearing in Oslo harbor in our time. Divorced, mid-life crisis struck modern cop gets a Norse female rookie partner and ex-skjaldmær/shield maiden to solve a murder mystery. Unironically the best, most historically faithful Viking Age treatment I've seen. The time-travelling Vikings speak perfect Old Norse and the really funny contrast between our modern sensibilities and theirs is played straight with hilarious results. :hmm:

*edit* Sorry it's an HBO production.

I've only watched a couple of episodes but there's an astounding level of linguistic detail for those in the know. The first scene when the confused modern Norwegians are trying to speak to their Viking ancestors has them bring in an Icelander to try and communicate with them which was kinda cool.

Split second hilarious Old Norse twitter profiles, that sort of thing. An in-joke a few dozen nerds, tops, will ever get.

Finished it. It's fun but it kinda peters out in the last 30 minutes or so. I definitely feel there's a much better 2 hour version of this. Also
nobody I cared for survives
which kinda left me empty at the end.

Warhammer is getting its own streaming service.

https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/warhammer-streaming-service-40k-announcement/

QuoteWarhammer is getting its own streaming service. Earlier today, Games Workshop announced Warhammer+, a new app that will serve as the home for a slate of new Warhammer-related animated content. Details about the exact nature of Warhammer+ were vague - Games Workshop described it as a "bespoke app created by a big name in VOD content" that can be used on tablets and apps and can be streamed to TVs. Warhammer+ will serve as the home to a full slate of upcoming Warhammer animated projects, including Angels of Death, Hammer and Bolter, and The Exodite, all of which have some sort of previews available online. Notably, the animated projects include stories set in the worlds of both Warhammer 40,000 and Warhammer: Age of Sigmar, indicating that Games Workshop is trying to build awareness about more than its flagship game. More information about the Warhammer+ app will be released on June 23rd.

A sizzle reel showing off the various projects were also released, which can be viewed up above.

As part of the announcement, Games Workshop released the first five minutes of Angels of Death, which will focus on a group of Blood Angels. The project's full description reads: "Battered by warp storms, a small band of Blood Angels find safe harbour above an isolated world. All is not as it seems though, and soon the scions of Sanguinius have fresh foes to contend with." You can check out the preview here.

While the worlds of Warhammer have always had a presence in video games and tabletop games, Games Workshop has seemingly been building towards other forms of media for some time. Games Workshop announced plans for an Eisenhorn TV series back in 2019, followed by the announcement of the aforementioned Angels of Death animated series. It was presumed that one or both of those projects would end up on a bigger streaming app given their need for more content, but it seems that Games Workshop is banking that fans will want access to these shows enough on a standalone service. The big question is whether the Warhammer+ app will come with any other perks, such as a subscription service for the company's continuous stream of rulebooks or perhaps access to the fabled Black Library, the publishing arm for Warhammer's line of fiction novels.

I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

I've given thought to checking The New Girl because Zoey Whatshername is so frickin cute.  Watched a youtube clip and was disabused of that notion.  It's a throwback humor free old style sitcom, like Two and a Half Men.

I'm giving up halfway through Army of the Dead.  It's a bad movie.

Yeah it is definitely an old school sitcom. I really liked it ten years ago but I don't know if I could still enjoy it today.
