The other problem is you have 3 dozen different relief agencies from 10+ countries who all think they need immediate access, as well as various celebrities, media and reporters, and politicians all flying in to do nothing more than talk about how oh-so-sad everything is (and, not coincidentally, get their faces plastered all over the headlines).

I heard on the news this morning that Canadian troops have identified a landing strip in a more remote area that they can use to bring in aid and supplies so as to avoid the bottle neck.  They also have two naval vessals off shore in more remote areas to provide aid and medical assistance.

Hopefully other nations are doing the same.

His only fault is in overstating the obvious.  Of course the administration will try to milk this for PR.  I'm sure most administrations would.

Doesn't make sense to fly in an entire field hospital before that task is done; otherwise the hospital just takes up a lot of space on the tarmac.

Whereas while you're setting up the field hospital, you had to wave off a flight carrying food, or military personnel needed for securing the area, and people will die from starvation or from gang violence.

Not really a Catch-22, because the hospital couldn't have been set up to service those people anyway.  No roads means no hospital to the people, and no people to the hospital.

The people who would have died would have been those who needed the water that was delayed in order to fit the hospital into the deployment.

Nobody likes to be delayed, but the whining from MSF is self-serving and therefor as suspect as any other self-serving whining.
